Dr. Christopher Gerard Azzoli has joined Lifespan Cancer Institute as the Director of Thoracic Oncology. As a native of Rhode Island, he obtained a medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore and subsequently received residency training at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed specialized training in oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York and served there from 2002 to 2012. From 2012 to 2018, he worked at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center in Boston.
Dr. Azzoli has been the lead author and co-author of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) lung cancer treatment guidelines since 2003. In 2012, he served as the Chair of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), responsible for developing evidence-based guidelines for use by clinical oncologists.
